AG Series Gear Couplings

AG Series High-Torque Gear Couplings

AniGears Gear Couplings (AG and EA Series) are high-performance, torsionally rigid, flexible shaft couplings designed to transmit high torque between rotating shafts operating under demanding industrial conditions.

Torque is transmitted through accurately machined, hardened, and crowned gear teeth on the hubs, which engage with internal teeth on the sleeves. This design permits limited angular, parallel, and axial misalignment while maintaining compact dimensions and high torque capacity.

The AG Series (FGC Type) represents the heavy-duty range of Full Gear Couplings, available in Short Teeth (ST) and Long Teeth (LT) configurations to suit different torque and alignment requirements.

AniGears gear couplings are precision-engineered and supplied fully CED-coated for corrosion protection and long service life.

Features & Advantages

Why Choose This Product

High Torque Density

Compact and robust design ensures high torque transmission capability relative to coupling size.

Crowned Gear Teeth

External hub teeth are crowned to ensure uniform load distribution, reducing edge contact and stress under misalignment.

Double Engagement Flexibility

Allows simultaneous accommodation of angular, parallel, and axial misalignments without inducing excessive bearing load.

Short Teeth (ST)

Allow greater angular flexibility and are recommended for drives where misalignment variations or shaft deflections are expected.

Long Teeth (LT)

Provide higher torque capacity and improved load distribution due to larger contact area but allow slightly lower misalignment.

Torsional Rigidity

Metallic tooth engagement ensures positive torque transmission with negligible torsional wind-up, suitable for high-speed drives.

Ease of Maintenance

Seals can be replaced without disturbing hubs. Lubrication through grease nipples simplifies periodic servicing.

What is an AG Series Gear Coupling?

An AG Series gear coupling is a rigid and flexible gear coupling (FGC type – Full Gear Coupling) used to connect two rotating shafts. It transmits power through the friction of external hub gear teeth with inner involute teeth on a surrounding sleeve. The design provides greater power density than elastomeric couplings and can convey high torque in a small outer diameter.

ST (Short Teeth) vs. LT (Long Teeth) Configurations

For different mechanical demands we offer this line of industrial gear couplings in two tooth profiles: standard and oblique.

  • ST (Short Teeth) Variants: The teeth are made with a modified profile that is more angularly flexible and is useful on drives that experience frequent misalignment or dynamic load changes because the tension is distributed over a greater operating arc.
  • LT (Long Teeth) profiles: The LT profile offers a larger contact surface and high torque density, making it a perfect option for uniform, heavy-duty drives that require higher load ratings with little misalignment.

The AG gear coupling series is available in full-flex and half-flex versions. For long-term protection against environmental degradation, all of the components are coated with Cathodic Electro Deposition (CED) to protect against corrosion in chemical or humid environments. This series has a bore size from 14mm to 710mm, offering small motor connections and big motor drives. Check out our EA Series Gear Couplings for other heavy-duty options.

Selection Procedure

5-Step Selection Procedure

Use these five engineering steps to determine which size of AG series gear coupling is correct for your system.

01
Determine Absorbed Power

Find the actual kW power absorbed by the machine at rated speed. This is not the motor nameplate kW; derive it for starting and peak loads.

02
Choose the Service Factor

Multiply the absorbed power by the service factor for your type of application (e.g., 1.25 for conveyors and 1.5 for crushers) to get the design power.

03
Select the Coupling Size

Using our sizing metrics, find the coupling size at which the power rating at 100 RPM (scaled to your speed) is equal to or greater than the design power. Our standard AG gear coupling table covers AG-101 to AG-119.

04
Check Bore Range and Misalignment Limits

Check that your frame size will allow your driver and driven shaft diameters to be within the min/max bore limits. Also, check the allowed angular and parallel misalignment limits in the field.

05
Confirm Lubrication & Speed Capabilities

Check that your system's maximum RPM is not more than the limit of the size selected. Check that your system is running on EP2 grease and that the balance grade G6.3 is selected above 3,000 RPM.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

AGR series gear coupling is a torsionally rigid, full flex or half flex flexible gear coupling (FGC type) that transmits high torque between two shafts. The AG series gear coupling is a crowned hub with the teeth of the hub inside the straight teeth of the inner teeth of a flanged sleeve that corrects for angular, parallel and axial misalignment.

The AG-101 is a small compact version that has a torque rating of 1,100 Nm, while the AG-119 industrial is large capacity model with a torque rating of 1,470,000 Nm. The gears are made by AniGears, a leading gear coupling manufacturer, and are available in full flex or Half Flex.

ST (Short Teeth) couplings have a different tooth profile, which allows greater angular flexibility, and are ideal for systems that misalign intermittently. LT (Long Teeth) couplings have a larger surface area on which to contact the shaft, thus providing more torque for heavier, uniform drives with slightly less misalignment.

This type of coupling requires EP2 lithium grease filled to at least 75% of the inner sleeve cavity volume. For high-speed applications operating above 3,000 RPM, ensure that the grease specification matches the temperature of your system.

The standard AG gear coupling ranges in diameter from 14mm on the AG-101 to 710 mm on the AG-119. As a top-quality gear coupling supplier, we can bore and key all our models to meet your engineering drawings.

Yes. Due to the mechanical clearance built into the crowned tooth profile, this industrial gear coupling line can handle angular, parallel, and axial misalignment. To determine the minimum permissible values for each frame size, see our product dimension tables.

They are widely used in all heavy industries and are typically used as a high-capacity gear coupling for conveyor in the mining industry or a rigid gear coupling for rolling mills in steel plants. They are also used in cement plants, crushers, power plants, paper mills, chemical plants, and sugar processing facilities.

The maximum speed ranges from 6,700 RPM for the smallest AG-101 to 825 RPM for the largest AG-119. As the size and weight of the coupling increase, so does the maximum allowed speed.

Yes, we are a recognized gear coupling manufacturer India with ISO 9001:2015 certification. Our gear coupling India is thoroughly tested in NABL-certified labs and coated with CED anti-corrosion coating before final packing and shipping.

To select the correct size, find out how much power your machine absorbs, determine the required application service factor, pick a frame size from the dimensions table, make sure your shaft diameters are within the min/max bore, and verify the required speed and lubrication.
